Random Number Generator 1–3

One click gives you a fair random number from 1 to 3 — every value has exactly a 1-in-3 chance. Built for quick three-way picks: rock-paper-scissors style decisions, choosing between three options, or assigning three players an order. The From/To fields let you switch to any other range on the spot.

How the pick works

The generator asks your browser's cryptographic random source (crypto.getRandomValues) for a value and maps it uniformly onto 1…3, so every outcome has probability exactly 1/3 — no pattern, no memory of previous picks.

Independence is the point: a number is never "due". Each click is a fresh draw, like a fair die that can't remember what it rolled before. Everything runs locally in your browser.

P(each value) = 1/3
each click = independent draw (no memory)

Worked examples

Example 1: picking one of three restaurants

The classic 1–3 use case, done fairly.

  1. Map each option to a number: 1 = pizza, 2 = sushi, 3 = tacos.
  2. Generate one number from 1–3 and commit to the result.

A fair pick nobody can argue with.

Example 2: generating several at once

You need a handful of values from 1–3.

  1. Set "How many" to the count you need.
draws are independent — repeats can occur
  2. Copy the list with the Copy button.

A batch of independent draws, like rolling the same die repeatedly.

FAQ

Is every number from 1 to 3 equally likely?+

Yes — the draw is uniform: each value has probability exactly 1/3, verified by the mapping from the browser's cryptographic generator.

Can the same number come up twice in a row?+

Of course — independent draws have no memory, and back-to-back repeats happen with probability 1/3. A repeat is evidence of fairness, not brokenness.

Can I use a different range?+

Yes — edit the From and To fields for any whole-number range (negative numbers included), or tap the preset chips for the common 1–3 through 1–100 ranges.

Is this fair enough for raffles and giveaways?+

For informal draws, absolutely — cryptographic randomness is stronger than dice. For regulated lotteries you'd need an audited process, which no browser page provides.
