Random Letter Generator
Draw random letters of the alphabet: choose how many, uppercase or lowercase, and whether repeats are allowed. Great for word games, classroom activities and "name something with the letter…" rounds.
How letters are drawn
Each letter is an independent uniform draw from the 26-letter English alphabet, powered by the browser's cryptographic random source — every letter has exactly a 1-in-26 chance per draw.
With "No repeats" on, the generator deals letters like a shuffled deck instead, so you can draw up to 26 distinct letters — handy for bingo-style games where each letter must come up once.
Worked examples
Example 1: Scattergories letter
Each round needs one random letter everyone plays against.
- Leave the count at 1 and click Generate each round.count = 1
- Skip and re-roll if your house rules exclude rare letters like Q or X.
A fair letter per round, with no dice or spinner needed.
Example 2: alphabet practice without repeats
A teacher wants flash-letter drills covering the whole alphabet in random order.
- Turn on "No repeats" and set the count to 26.unique = on, count = 26
- Work through the set in the generated order — every letter appears exactly once.
A full shuffled alphabet, like dealing a 26-card deck.
FAQ
Does every letter have the same chance?+
Yes — each draw is uniform at 1/26. Unlike letters pulled from real text, there's no bias toward E, T or A.
How many letters can I generate at once?+
Up to 100 with repeats allowed, or up to 26 in no-repeats mode (the alphabet simply runs out).
Can I include numbers or symbols?+
This tool is letters-only by design. A random-number series and string generators are planned pages.
Uppercase or lowercase — does it change the randomness?+
No — case is pure formatting applied after the draw. A and a are the same letter pick.
